Chapter 1
Summary: Nick Carraway is introduced as the narrator of the novel. He calls himself unbiased and he doesn't judge people because he is above that, however he still does judge them. He goes on to talk about how he moved to West Egg New York where his neighbor is Jay Gatsby. Nick decides to go over to East Egg to visit his once removed second cousin Daisy Buchanan. Daisy's husband Tom is there too and he is much more conceited than Nick and not like Nick. Also while he is visiting he meets Jordan Baker who is a professional golfer and friend of Daisy. Jordan tells Nick of Tom's lover in New York who he gets a phone call from later. After the dinner is over Nick goes home to see Gatsby in the distance looking at a green light.
Analysis: In this Chapter we are introduced to the main characters and the narrator of our story. We see Nick and his personality and also we are introduced to Gatsby in the end of the chapter. This chapter is the beginning of the story and sets up the setting in New York.

Color: Color is mentioned in the first chapter at the end when Nick refers to the green light Gatsby is looking at. I think this is symbolizing Gatsby's love and hope for getting back daisy and his goal to be with her. Nick makes reference to Gatsby looking at a green light later in the story at the end of Daisies dock.
