Characters in The Great GatsbyNICK CARRAWAYNick Carraway is the narrator of the story. He has moved to New York from the midwest to escape to a more relaxed setting, after he had just fought for several years in the war. While living here Nick sparks a relationship with Jordan Baker, and also secretly starts the love affair between Gatsby and Daisy. In the end of the novel Nick decides to move away from the east, and back home to marry a woman back in his original town. JAY GATSBYJay Gatsby is the main character of the story. His life revolves around money and being wealthy. He feels as if money can get him anything in life, even friends and family.Gatsby remains in love with Daisy even after she marries to another man, and tries to use his wealth to gain her back. Daisy and Gatsby have a continuous affair. In the end, Gatsby was shot by Wilson, who mistook him for someone else.TOM BUCHANANTom Buchanan is Daisy's actual husband. He is a very muscular, conceited man who was a college football star at New Haven, and had since traveled the world and bounced to random places with his wife. He is very wealthy, and lives in a mansion on a beautiful island off of New York. He is very shady and only cares of his money, and treats Daisy poorly.GEORGE WILSONGeorge is the husband of Myrtle Wilson. He is a lifeless, dull mechanic who owns a rundown garage. George is madly in love with his wife, and when he finds out of the affair he is completely outraged. In the end Wilson ends up shooting Gatsby because he felt that he killed his wife and that he was the one having an affair with Myrtle.MYER WOLFSHEIMMyer is the reason Gatsby has all of his riches. He helped Gatsby obtain the money by illegally bootlegging liquor. They were believed to still be partaking in the process throughout the novel.OWL EYESOwl Eyes adapts his nickname from his thick lensed eye glasses. Nick and Jordan run into him for the first time in the library of Gatsby's mansion, during one of Gatsby's giant partys. He is a drunk, and at one point admits to not being sober for a week straight. KLIPSPRINGERKlipspringer is a man who creeps around Gatsby's mansion, and only comes around for money. When Gatsby deceases, Klipspringer is nowhere to be found, and does not attend the funeral.DAISY BUCHANANDaisy is the wife of Tom, and is also Nick's cousin. Daisy is treated very poorly by Tom, and is also having an affair with Gatsby. Gatsby and Daisy had been in love in previous times, but Daisy did not wait for Gatsby when he was off at war. She also is the first to introduce Jordan Baker to Nick.JORDAN BAKERJordan Baker is Daisy's close friend, who is a very popular golfer. Nick and Jordan have a fling during the course of the novel. Jordan is a mysterious "rough around the edges" type of girl.MYRTLE WILSONMyrtle is the wife of George Wilson. Although very quite and kept to herself when she is in her small apartment or her husband's garage, Myrtle comes out of her shell when she is with Tom, who she happens to be having an affair with. Tom has a nice apartment for Myrtle and him to escape to, while her husband thinks she is visiting her sister. At the end of the novel Myrtle is brutally killed in a car accident.
